Our cars lack the ability to monitor simple safety measures such as oil and water temps. After market OBD readers have been around a long time which will display these readings among many other valuable diagnostic readings such as fuel trim, O2 sensors, boost, and so on. What I have never liked about these is the limited usability to use while driving on the road or track. Attaching another screen does not appeal to me.

My next project in the queue is OBD on iDrive. Take readings from either OBD port or straight from the can bus and display on the iDrive monitor.

This pic shows my first trial run. The display on the iDrive screen is real but the readings you see are simulated - there is no connection to the can bus yet

Wow, that would be one of the most useful mods ever.

Been wishing for something like this for years!

Yes, I'd really like to be able to do this also. Great work! What are you planning to use to interface with the OBD or CANBUS?

Have you seen the prototype iDrivino that interfaces with the Procede? iDrivino
That thread may have some insight for you. I'd buy one of those if it ever comes to market.

I plan to go with a CANBUS connection. I did see the iDrivino demo - pretty interesting.

Made some interface improvements with menu options:

The numbers on the screen are still simulated - no interface to the canbus implemented yet.

If anyone has thoughts on what types of screens to go for feel free to share and which OBD values to display.

I'm showing: "Normal" "Sport" "Track"

Oli, boost, EGT and AFR would be my top picks. Great work! I hope this goes to market, I'll be among the first to lay down the cash.
