i tried to search and read up but i couldnt find a 100% sure answer on which cable i need to buy, and where to buy? My car is as follows 2006 550i and I have the factory changer installed so i understand that I wont need the software recode. thanks!

Hey, I have just done exactly what you are describing. I am assuming you want the ipod stuff to show up in your idrive display. If thats the case just say that to your bmw dealer and they will know which kit to use. I don't think its the sort of thing you can do yourself as there maybe some programming required depending on which version of idrive you have.

Upshot, I love it! Great to all your tunes in the car.

Cheers

I also have installed the I-pod kit in my 06 530. Since you have a changer in your vehicle, it is not necessary to have your car programed. It ottk me about 1 hour to install the kit. Note: you will loose your cd changer. But well worth it!!

I installed an iPod adapter myself in an '06 650i. However when I needed a CIP upgrade (to fix the iPod playing on among other things) the delear had to reprogram the car before they did the update. At least I avoided installation labor.

PS: I bought mine online through European Auto Source. I also bought a faceplate from the dealer (it goes over the hole left by the changer).

Thanks. Ive read that its easy to install so I can handle it. The part about the CIP update is going to keep me fron doing this i think. It looks like I will have some problems when having the software updated
