Something that may be related....
Years ago I upgraded my old iDrive controller (the one with only the menu button) to the newer design with all buttons for Nav, Radio, etc.
There was a setting in the module I needed to change - something about hi vs low. Prior to the change, the knob would spin freely and do nothing in the display. After the coding change, the knob had the proper force feedback and worked correctly.
Try doing some search for iDrive controller retrofit and see if anything helps.

Do it in expert mode not comfort There are a pletora of howto's here and bmwcoding about how to flash the CIC / MOST /CCC with specific PABD in expert mode . Comfort mode will just give you the new available ZB . Most probably you need to downgrade SPDATEN to the version which has your original ZB number. Make sure only MOSTGW is flashed via DCAN (i.e, CAN address 0x62) otherwise you will brick your thing. (63 and A0 need ICOM on MOST ASYNC)
