Hi,
I have a BMW E60 2004 (UK Model) with manual fold mirrors and have purchased a set of pre 09/2005 BMW E60 M5 mirrors and wondered if I could get the auto function to work if I bought a window switch panel with the auto fold button, from the same model/year with this function.
Would the wiring be already there, also would I need to change the control modules if any, that are in the doors,
Thanks in advance.

You definitely need to go to the dealer to have your car programmed for the auto-fold functionality.. Am not sure about whether you need to replace any other ECU...

You need the "high" version door modules in order the auto fold function to work -if mirrors are foldable of course- and a new door switch, the one with the folding button. Do you have seats with memory? If you have seats with memory, you will probably have the auto dip function left mirror (UK) when in reverse, what means you may have the "high" version door modules already. Then, a switch and a very special programming (basically it's an entirely new coding of the car with the folding function commands incorporated ...not something that ordinary dealers can do) is all you need to make them folding.

Or find a breaker that will sell you pre-programmed door modules from a car that had all these features.

meaning that option needs to be "embedded" via programming in the cars VIN... - right Nick ?
Not necessarily by VIN# as the new entered commands are paired/embedded with that VIN forever, after the job has finished. (Hope you understand what I mean... I think we mean the same thing with different words ...my fuc king English )
...even M5 DME on 520i VIN or vice versa (520 DME with M5 VIN)
I talked with Anthony's mechanic who has paired M5 seat modules with moving seat bolsters, center console buttons included, on his 530i and was told that almost everything is doable if you have the appropriate sotware/tools/correct parts by part# and you know what to do
In other words "The TOTAL HACKING"

Doing this, next time you'll have to visit the dealer, all functions/components that are not embedded into the car's entire software (by VIN as Andy said ...like they do in the factory when building a car and matching components to a specific VIN) will be erased and returned to cars built standards.
