Default m-sport front bumper conversion parts?

Hi, this is my first thread post! I picked up an '09 535xi last year.

I recently picked up a used m-sport front bumper. With it, I have:
- PDC sensors
- lower mesh grill
- brake ducts
- wheel/fender liners

Do I need anything else? Like the upper & lower radiator ducts? or the foam bumper support?

Thanks,
Brian

Default Welcome

Welcome, Brian. Are you familiar with realoem.com? If not, it should be your next stop. You can look up all the information you need with your car's serial number (last 7 of VIN) and identify the full list of affected parts. Then you can compare those parts by option code and model year to identify any differences. It'll require some sleuthing, but it'll be time well spent.

I converted my m-sport to M5, so I am familiar with many of the affected parts, and the list is too long to list in one post from memory. To point you in the right direction for possible pitfalls, check the following carefully:

PDC wiring harness
bumper foam and bumper carrier (rebar)
fog lights and brackets (if you have them)
brackets for brake ducts
front lower engine cover and attached parts

And I'd just pick up a full bumper hardware install kit and save yourself the hassle of reusing old worn out hardware.

Thanks GT for pointing me in the right direction. I will go on realoem.com and figure all that is needed. I Hoping more of the existing parts would be reusable, but it's sounding like that is not the case.

Btw, I think I bought your Forgestars from you. Shortly after I got the wheels, I came across the msport front bumper and side skirts for what I thought was a good deal.

Hope all is well!

Thanks again!
Brian

Oh, hey Brian! Yep, you bought my Forgestars. Sometimes realoem can but a bit tricky to find all the right parts diagrams without knowing the part numbers. If you want, pm me your email address and I'll send you my M5 conversion spreadsheet. The part numbers for the M5 won't necessarily be relevant, but you can search them all and learn the path to the parts diagrams where you'd find what you need for your conversion. In my spreadsheet, I hyperlinked each part number directly to realoem to make it painless to reference at any time.

Btw, if I turn up any of these m-sport parts that I didn't sell from my car, you can have any of them you're missing.

Hi, I'm going the m5 front bumper myself and trying to find which is the correct shock absorbers to use. My 07 are to shallow, the real m5 ones may be the correct ones to use, they list 3 sets for the e60! I got all my hardware from ecs tuning. I'm on it tho!

I wanted to provide an update to my thread on parts necessary for swapping the msport front bumper.

After reading how other forum members have done this swap, I had a pretty good idea of what was needed (& how).

Here's what I got to do the swap (in addition to what I already had with the msport bumper):

- bumper carrier

- foam for the carrier

- adapters that attach to the bottom of the msport bumper carrier (#32 in the msport diagram) (you may not need these, but I got them just to make sure. FYI- the non-msport bumper uses 4 bolts vs 2 bolts).

- side panel supports (plastic things that secure the sides to the fenders - #6 in diagram above)

- the bottom corner covers (these attach to the fender liners - look like pizza slices - #7 in diagram)

- fog light connector (msport uses HB4 bulbs)

Here are a couple, quick iPhone pics:

Waiting on ICS coilovers to arrive (suppose to be last week). Once spring comes around, I'll get tires for the Forgestars I picked up last year.

Once all that is done, I'll take proper pics. :-)

Looks great! Now let’s see it with those Forgestars!
