Default Annoying phone cradle

Hi guys, just bought a beaut 2007 530i and I see there has been quite a lot of discussion about removing that useless phone cradle in the centre armrest, but to be honest I can't seem to find one that actually shows the complete process. Some people say they have paid the dealer, but I would rather do it myself if I can.
It seems relatively easy to remove the top piece by removing the 4 torx screws, but that doesnt achive much - just removes the internal lid.
Can anyone help this newbie with some good links - all the links I found in my search did not actually show the process.
Cheers

you likely will need to remove the center console. I just gathered some info on how to do this. PM me your email address and I will send you a PDF

Yup! My eyeglass case fits in the bottom portion along with a patchcord for my AUX and in the top I have a small notepad, a couple of pens and my tire gauge.

hey kiwi-
quick question for you....are you referring to an actual phone cradle that has a plug-in adapter for a certain type of phone? i know that was an option on some models and could be had as a BMW aftermarket item.

OR...as Jay and others have mentioned, do you have the little box inside the console like in the attached images? i think it's called the "eject box" in some of the parts diagrams.

Thanks Jon - yes, it is the little box as in the two images you posted. Although the car seems like it is fitted for a phone, there does not appear to be any wiring to the console, and I dont seem to have bluetooth fitted which sucks. Would love to fit that, but the aftermarket guys here want almost $950 for it, so ................ I tried installing fuse 37 in the glove box panel as some guys suggested in the forum, but I guess the bluetooth controller is just not installed.
As for the console box, maybe just removing the lid might make it a little more user friendly. I am still uncertain how to go any further than this, other than butchering it.
There was a good post for this job on the X3 forum, but the details are a bit different.
Cheers
