However, doesn't look like it is available yet for our vehicles.

Is anybody using that radio transmitter thingy sold for iPod to get sound into the BMW speakers?
If so what sort of degradation/quality are to be expected?

best

I bought the iTrip after reading a posting from Dr. Diesel. It works far better than other FM transmitters I've tried (Belkin and iRock), but is a still less than ideal solution. The iTrip also needs to be used in combination with a 12-volt adapter power source for the iPod (mine is a Belkin -- works great). Otherwise the FM reception is weak and the iPod battery is shot in a couple of hours.

The far better solution would be for BMW to finally upgrade the E60 software to enable the CD player and changer to read MP3 files, in accordance with the owner's manual, and to also upgrade the E60 software to enable it to accept the iPod glove box adapter.

Just ran across this on MSNBC.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5269737/

Purves told Reuters that over time BMW will make the BMW iPod Adapter compatible with stereo systems in its 5 Series and 7 Series models and the rest of its product line. He declined to say when this would happen.
Could happen.

But it could happen only on future model year cars. Keep your fingers crossed!

But why would you want to iPod your BMW? MP3 quality is known to be inferior.
