Ok - after many months I finally decided to replace the iDrive control knob on my 2005 530 (production 9/04) Go to the dealer to get the updated version with the leather top and rubber grips around the side. They tell me it will fit??????. Get home pop the old one off and they are totally different. My old knob has a plastic sleeve inside which snaps over the controller - the new style knob does not have this molded plastic insert. Back to the dealer and they say it wont fit after giving my VIN - Thanks for telling me now. Any way to get this to work as they won't take it back.

Thanks

it HAS to fit. I've swapped out MANY idrive knobs many times. Make sure it's in the right position and WACK it in

Thanks I just tried again - no go. It does not fit. I will take some pics of the underside of both knobs and post this weekend. Thanks for the help - more to come

do you happen to know the part number?

for sure '08 knobs are an easy swap...wonder if with '10 the knob is slightly different since they have the new iDrive...)not sure about '09 knobs/iDrive...
