I do! I use 10W60 on my 545i for 2 years! Highly recommend! it protects the engine (I know is is for M cars because of high RPMs... Well, I do high rpm too! I tested both Castrol 5W30 and it ok and I feel little slowly... then an pro-racing mechanics recommended me to use 10W60 and it converts a beast! Hands down! Ask any professional racing mechanics... I bet they will tell you to use 10W60 regardless the car is not an M.... it is like BMW does not want to install LSD on non-M cars, so same for oil... I thing all V8 must use 10W60 if you revving high..

Yes, I know BMW says don't use 10W60 on non-M like they said don't remove the charcoal filter. same thing!

thicker oil makes the oil pump work harder, and lowers your fuel economy.

//M engines are designed with different tolerances, which is designed for a heavier oil.

most normal cars are designed for fuel efficiency, hence the tighter bearing clearances and use of thinner oils.

you gain nothing by using a thicker oil.

i am considering the the 10w60 too, i think they are spec'ing the thin oils for fuel economy at the expense of engine protection. seems like if its ok for a bmw v10 then why not a bmw v8.

so it seems you've had no probs using that oil?

I've heard of Purple Stuff oil? Does anyone use that? Heard it was good performance oil.

Thicker oil doesn't flow as well or get into tight clearances as well. And since there's lower flow it doesn't carry heat away as well.
plus lower fuel consumption, and working the oil pump harder.
most engine wear ocurrs at start-up. a thinner oil will flow better when cold.
