My Ride: 2008 M5 -- Exterior: Silverstone, Interior: Black. Fully Loaded. That just about sums it up! :-)
Hey Guys,
To my surprise, there seems to be a different wiring harness configuration with the M5 Mirrors (3 different wiring harnesses) vs. the stock E60 Mirrors (only one wiring harness?). I was told by the seller (Roveractive eBay seller that the "switch" would be easy "with the same harness configuration").
That's what I get for not verifying it with the E60 Forum community.
I know that some of you have already done the conversion. I'd appreciate any insight that anyone can share.
Thanks,
CoolTones

One thing that comes to mind is that the M5 mirrors you got have the folding feature but your E60, being a US model did not come with the folding mirrors, so the car's harness is missing the connector for that feature. However, you should have all the rest of the features (auto dimming, heated glass), so I am not sure why there is just one connector on your harness and three on the M5 mirror's. I am sure some prople here know and will chime in with the answer.
Is one of the connectors on the M5 mirror the same as the one on your car's harness? If so you can probably use only that connector and still have the same functionality you had on your original mirrors, but that's just a guess on my part.

Thanks so much for the speedy reply. Correct. There is no folding mirror option. Strange thing: None of the three harnesses "match up" with the one harness on my E60

I have those and it was an straight swap, everything works, folding and lights.
I *know* that I (being in the US) should not have the folding feature; however, strange that somehow the wiring harnesses don't even connect up.
Thanks for your reply. I was under the impression that the swap was going to be easy.

My Ride: Alpine White 530i loaded
I remember that I did a 525i and the customer car was a 2006 and did not have folding mirrors and all the plugs were the same.

My Ride: 525D with M-Sport Package (M-rear spoiler incl.) - Manual Drive - Carbon black - amethyst leather (2 tone) - Summer: styling 128 rims (245/35 R19Y - 275/30 R19Y on Michelin PS2) - Winter: styling 135M rims (245/40/18ZR on Dunlop M3 SP Winter Sport)- Logic7 - Nav.Syst.Prof. - bluetooth - xenon - adapt. headl.- PDC - Sun Protection Glass - Through Load Syst. - M5 mirrors - Chrome Grill - Extended Inter. Light Package - Front Seat Heating and...the amazing floormats
I just got the M-mirrors installed, but since I did not have the folding option originally, I have to fold my M-mirrors manually today.
I missed the folding option since I -wrongly- thought it was standard. The auto-folding is not listed as a separate option, but comes with the auto-dimming feature (here in Belgium at least).
Reference numbers will also be different.
These are the refs I got installed:
51167897547 (glass)
51167897548 (glass)
51167897561 (mirror)
51167897562 (mirror)
Of course, this may not be of great help to you guys in the US, but I would doubt that the plugs on cars with/without auto-folding are the same. Just my 2 cents.
