vids wont work.
and how do you plan to power your 320gb?

the 2.5" drive is only powered by the usb port itself.

Did you get a LCI without us knowing? He's talking about the new 2008+ that has the $400 option to get a USB port in the center arm rest console. And with that if you have a 2.5" HD and a external USB HD case you can format it correctly to use it as a MP3 player for the car

Do I understand correctly that the entire drive is powerd via USB or is there some other external power source? Does anyone have a link to one of the cases that this would work in?

I'm clearly enjoying the USB interface just with USB flash drives. I have a couple old hard drives that I ripped out of some old notebook computers that I could use if this end up being a small, self-powered thing that fits in the console. (I realize I could run a USB cable to another location but it probably won't be worth it to me at this point since the flash drives seem to work pretty well and I'll probably get an iPod eventually...)

Is this one?

Correct. That enclosure is powered (5V DC) via USB plug

Cool. This will be a pretty easy little project then -- especially since I think I have a drive or two lying around...

Here is my 60GB one, that I always have with me, transfering projects between partners. There are (I think) 150 GB ones now on the marker.
Pretty cool and exchanging the HD is half a min job

Thanks.

Now, wouldn't you know it, there's now an actual need for the climate controlled console compartment and BMW went and took it away!
