Hi
I think the camera option is in the wish list of BMW future models as a standard feature. The advantage is you get a real time shot of the scene rather than a graphical/acoustic representation as in PDC.The camera helps you identify the obstruction itself rather than its proximity to your car as warned by the PDC.For eg, a kid playing in the rear side.In lexus it is already a standard feature across all models.
regards

I would like to add my vote for an option of a rear camera (at least).
PDC is a very useful option, but it does not (cannot) see all objects - per my experience. For example, it DOES NOT see a pillar (at an acute angle) in a parking garage that one is backing into - OUCH! :'( That is not the fault of the PDC, but is how stealth aircraft hide from radar.
I would have saved a scratch on my wagon's (touring's) rear bumper (pardon the 67 y/o limit to neck swiveling) had I been able to look (like the new X5) as well as hear.

My Ride: Black BMW 525i Touring
Hi Marco,
I am planning to install one. I have already bought the ACM module with the idea to attach a generic camera...only to find out that the ACM module can only be connected to the original BMW camera.
I am currently awaiting the a quote from the dealer to install AM module + BMW camera on my E61.

Actually, I have already ordered the two cameras option...together with M-Tech front/rear bumpers+sides.
I have a Touring E61 and I think probably the front camera will be even more useful, like when you exit from a side road with little visibility (some car parked too near to the crossroad...). With the Touring the rear visibility is not good at all, much worst then in the previous E39 which I had before. That's why I did not order the PDC, it was not really necessary in the E39, but it is IMO in the E61.
The M- aero kit is just for GOOD (much better!) looking!!!!!!!!!

Oookk, so let me get this straight. Stealth Bombers pretend they are carpark poles so they escape radar detection... Got it, pretty easy really

Stealth bombers have angled surfaces in addition to their radar absorbing material skin. But that is another topic
