For one the dealer told me, that is how they read the mileage and maint on the car when you take it in for service also, I have two keys and since my wife does not drive the car but once in a blue moon her key will at times not unlock the doors, but after about a 30 min drive she can lock or unlock the car again until that once in a blue moon comes back around.

Found this info regarding tge charging function of the key on another forum it stated that it charges by rf radio signal once its near the barrel the rf signals go to the coil on circuit and that charges key so hopefully by my understanding and the info in pic shows the key blade has nothing to do with charging as its not internally connected to circuit board

yes it charges by rf radio signal the key blade doesnt have anything to do with charging at all
you can hold a key near barrel and it will charge it

does anyone know if it is possible to switch the diamond style keys from 2004 525i to the newer style key similar to VW keys that flick/fold out?
