Hi,

For people here with engine preheaters like Defa's , can you explain me a bit more how it works ? I've been to Defa's website already...

Also, when you have one of those, does the engine temperature indicator goes directily to the halfway mark once you start your engine? I'm curious since 90% of my drives would consist of 30 minutes to do 5 KM in the mornings and I would like to floor it during these drives once I have the chance. But I'm afraid to do it because of the engine not being at the right temperature. Thx.

its best to let the transmission warm up too, not just the engine.

As a Norwegian, I am quite used to have cars with engine heater.

Normal heaters do only warm up the oil sump, and you still have to drive a couple of miles/km to get the engine warm enough for moderate power outlets.
The heater wil only shorten the warm up time, and save the engine for the bad cold engine start.

More modern installations includes even the cabin to have a warmer temperature during startup.
Combustion heaters will warm up your hole engine by heating up your coolant liquid, and even warms up the cabin using your car ventilation.
A combustion heater will warm up more parts of your engine, and you will be able hit the floor sooner.
Downside is that the heater can not be used in a garage, because of dangerous gases (ex. CO).

Combustion heaters cost $ 2.500 +, at least in Norway.
