Thumbs up

My brother just got a E60 and has seen that the radio in the car is not that great since it does not support Mp3, DVD etc. From his old car he has a radio module from panasonic that support MP3 DVD etc. He would like to change the current original BMW radio with the other one that is better.

Is this possible?
Can it be integrated with the iDrive?
Which DIY should he look for if he wants to change? or is it recommended to let a BMW dealer do this for him?

Regards
Amir

no, you can't change the radio module (m-ask or ccc-ask)...correction, it does play mp3 tracks in dvd and cd format-if your car currently has nav pro(it is the double slotted disk in your dash)...but what u can do is link it up as a secondary source...does the car currently have aux audio input? here's a link that might help...

Yes you can, you can get the Alpine hubpro vb222 and buy a TV tuner to integrate everything through your idrive screen, you will have DVD capabilities if you buy a dvd player as well as having the ability to connect alpine nav, processors, rear cameras etc. etc. etc.

Nelson29 did this already, im working on mine currently but im doing a full aftermaket set up where i can run the BMW stereo or my aftermarket as well. It will be like having 2 separate stereo systems in my vehicle.
Initial dry run was amazing.

stay tuned check my some of my threads there is a thread running around that i started where we talk about this particular issue.

good luck

No offence, but if i'm not mistaken, the guy was asking about installing his old panasonic unit...

he was also asking about whether it was possible to integrate the media system, so rjcastr was showing what type of aftermarket product was out there as an option...

He can istall it but it will not intergrate with Idrive system. If he wanted to keep idrive functions and have his aftermarket HU there is a lot of work that is involved to make this happen. Essentially what RJ stated above. BMW did not really want us messing with these cars to much so they did not make it easy. So in a nut shell he would have to do a full second system in his car if he want the HU in there as well as idrive functions.

So basically putting in the panasonic in a E60 is not the same as to put it in say a E36?
And making it work in a E60 with iDrive is really hard?
He does not want to spend money on getting a aftermarket HU.

"since it does not support Mp3, DVD etc. "

It does however support MP3's on CD.
