Anyone bought the BMW bike rack? How is it? Quality? Easy to install? Wind noise?

Which trays did you get? Thanks.

I bought one for my E39...... it was a snap to install. It was around $420 with 2 bike carriers.

Not sure how the E60 version works. They removed the little "roof doors" where the one for the E39 fit in to.

Anyone know if Thule items will fit the BMW bars (since Thule has yet to come up with a fit for the E60)? I've already got a lot invested in Thule racks and boxes and hate to have to acquire replacements.

They removed the doors, but I saw a diagram and the rack supposedly fits into anchor points inside the door jam. Not sure if thule stuff fits on the BMW rack or not. I think the BMW rack is made by Saris, so you might check their website or shoot them an email.

The E39 and E60 use the exact same roof carriers from BMW.

So if it fot s the E39 it should fit the E60

BMW have a couple different bike carriers

How could that be? My E60 has 4 little doors in the roof, sort of in the gutter line... the BMW roof rack fits precisely into those openings...... I haven't looked at the MY 2005s, but the 2004 did not have these little doors.........

He may not be talking about the "load bars" which attach to the vehicle, he may be talking about the various things that attach to the load bars...

Yep, that's how I see it.
The base is differnt, but the carriers on top of them can be used on all BMW's, AFAIK.

I can't make sense of what this means. Did you mean to say e39 not e60?

Sorry

The base is different

The bike systems are listed for both ( they attach to the base )

Confused me a bit as the pics of the bike system show the base, but the base must be bought seperately
