Here a block heater is a must, and 99% of cars have it.
but mine does not have it.... why?

so I got a chance to install the block heater this weekend, I didn't take any pics because it was so easy and the instructions that come with it has pics. As far as I can tell they are available for the m54 engines and looks like maybe only available to buy in Canada currently. The product is made in Canada and is just basically a solid metal brick that conducts heat which you bolt to the side of the engine above the oil drain plug. There is a spot that already has the bolt hole and a sort of grid pattern just above the oil drain plug on the passenger side of the engine, the block heater only fits in there one way you add some heat conducting silicone(buy from radio shack) and then put the block heater to the engine and tighten the bolt. then you run the cord to the front of the bumper and secure with the supplied zip ties and youa re done.
