Hey guys,

I talked to my dealer today about installing a blockheater and they want $300 for it does that sound reasonable?

nobody with pre-lci model has block heater? I'm still debating whether I should get it or not, I made it through last winter without and didn't seem to have any ill effects.

Hell no!

At least, not to me considering what a block heater is and what little work is involved with installing one.

Ok talked to the parts guy at the dealer and I can get the block heater kit for $75. I think it should be a fairly simple install so I will go ahead nad buy the part and install myself, beats paying $200 for install. If things go well I will post a DIY I know that they don't offer block heaters at all in the US and in Canada they are only available for the M54 engines.

I'm suprised that not more people have responded, it seems not many e60 drivers have block heaters

I know you are in Sask. I am in Calgary, AB. I never use a block heater on my 545i during all the 3 winters. I believe the e60 does not need i but make sure you have a good battery.

Or if you insist for a block heater, you may consider to buy this: http://www.princessauto.com/truck-trailer/...magnetic-heater for $44

there are 2 locations in Sask: http://www.princessauto.com/locations/saskatchewan/

Thanks for the reply, I ended up getting one at the dealer but will be installing myself. Turns out the install is really simple, and the block heater itself only cost me $75. The dealer is just raping guys on install, they wanted $200 labour to fasten 1 bolt and use a couple zip ties on the cord. I know you don't "need" a block heater as non of the newer bmw's have them, but I have to park outside so I figure better safe than sorry.
