My service rep agreed to remove the resistor AND put my input in the cubby slot of the console. IS he violating any rules by doing this? Kinda stupid question as he's willing to do it. I told him that's the only way I would get it done. Also wanted to have an input incase I carry a DVD Player in da ride.

I don't think he's violating any rules. When I had mine installed I just told them to plug the cord in and leave it so that I could put it wherever I wanted, they said ok and that was that. It saved me $50 too.

First of all, your SA is a very nice guy and he did whatever to satisfy his customer
He might violate some rules which modifies BMW design (removing cap and resistor) without BMW NA consent. Placing AUX port anywhere in the car is not violating any rule at all.
If you carry a DVD player in da ride, please expect some surge noise from speaker when turning on or changing track on aftermarket DVD player.
The purpose of cap and resistor is to suppress the noise surge, and the side effect is loosing low-end frequency (bass). By removing cap an res will improve bass, but you might experience some noise surge.
Good luck.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM Let's do a poll then. How many user's of the AUX input have opted to remove the resistor? Bass or SURGE noises?

In my previous E60 530i, I did not have iPod adapter, I opted for more bass, so I removed both cap and resistor. With this new E60 550i, I have iPod adapter, and I just leave AUX alone because I'll use it for external audio input from DVD player or the like for movie. Hence, sacrifice a little bass is ok for watching movie.

In my E60, I removed the resistors.

In my E90, I left the factory installed AUX alone. (Kept resistors).

There is no audible difference in bass response between the cars. Both cars have Logic 7.

Well I got another Dealer to install my AUX Input today. Couldn't wait until next week...had to know. Got a GREAT price....$184.85.
I first received the car with NO BASS!!!!!, but he took it back in and reconnected the connector more securely.
NOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NO BASS as in not as much as I'm used to. The resistors and cap are doing the job well. Had to use the "loudness" setting on the POD. Though I want to take them off, I'll leave them be. Just to add.....I put one of the MANY CD/MP3's in a newer car today, and it worked fine. In fact the CD I burnt using iTunes (USING APPLE), worked perfectly.
So I need another CD player, and hopefully my OTHER SA can work it out. AT least I'll get more BASS from that source.
Thanks for everything I've learned here, It makes me look good to the SA's and they're willing to do a lot more for me than they have to......they said I'm well E60 educated!!!!!!
