I've seen plenty of poplar wood/leather auto shifters....but never a black maple one.

has anyone come across one on their surfing travels??

Nope, I haven't seen it yet. I do know that they have a full leather auto-shifter. If you do not like the chrome of the standard one this might be a good alternative?

chrome is ok but with the sport steering wheel, the shifter would be the only bit of chrome in there and might stand out a bit!

Oh well, I'll keep looking

cheers

I have the sports steering wheel too and it has some chrome on it too. So I guess that the auto shifter would match the chrome of the steering wheel, don't you think so?

Oh good, to be honest, I've forgotton what the spots wheel was like, there wasn't one on the demonstrator I borrowed and to be honest, I spent the whole weekend testdrive marvelling at the elastic power/torque of the diesel engine.....though its too rich for me, I'm looking forward to trying the 535d demonstrator later in the year........With the right kit/options this may rightly be called an M5d

interesting thought the M5d ?????????????

The auto shifter looks well in standard trim because it matches the finish of the i-drive wheel.

I ordered a wood shifter and returned it since the stock one looked better. I agree, the chrome inlay does match the iDrive controller very well (as mentioned in the above post).

It also matches the steering wheel inserts if you have a 545 and also the door thing you use to open the door. Not the door handle but the first thing you have to pull twice to acctually open the door from the inside.

Good point. I'll keep mine and save some $$$. How about the wood trim for the back seat w/ cig. lighter sockets?
