Thumbs up

My 545i Auto, NAV, logic 7, Orient Blue will be delivered in the next 2-3 weeks.
US specs

I think the wheels that come with the non-sport package look ugly and too small.

I am concerned about good handling and rid comfort.

I am trying to decide what type of wheel to get.

I leaning toward a staggered 18?x 8 and 18? x 9 b/c I was told that ride comfort is greatly reduced on the 19? b/c of the low profile tires needed for 19?s

I would like some to tell me the original specs on the 545i sport wheels

1 ) center bore
2 ) offset of both front and back
3) Please Explain hub centric rings and how they work

I can?t find this info anywhere.

I was told to keep the above as close as possible to OEM specs to retain good handling and no vibration

You have very fine taste in cars!

I also have an Orient Blue 545iA, w/ Grey Intertior.,w/ NAV, Logic 7, Premium PKG, and Cold Weather PKG coming in in the next couple weeks. I hate the wheels it comes, they look like they belong on a cheap japanese car.

I am looking for other options, I am hestitant to change rims because I don't want to cheapen the look of the car. Rims are one of those things that have to be done right, especially on cars this fine. I am not sure about 18's or 19's. I like the SSR GT3's with the BMW logo in the center. There is an outfit that usually has a set on ebay you should take a look at them. I also like one on the rims on the e60.doit.wisc.edu site under Selected OEM Accesories, but I don't know how to get them. It is hard to tell what will look good because there are so few picture available of 545's with aftermarket rims.

I want something that looks sporty, but doesn't compromise the ride too much.

If you come up with any good alternatives, post the pictures.

Definately go with 19s. I made the error and bought 18s. Eventhough my car came with 18s, the car is too big for that wheel size. The lookswill denepend on the rim you buy. If you go Hartge (like I did) or some HRE the look is more classic and a bit sporty. If you go with BBS, SSR GT3 and ACShitzer the look is more sporty. I thought the ride was going to be rougher witht he 19s but is almost unoticeable.

Just my 2 cents

tdocz,

About choosing new wheels for your 545, you can check in a 5 series model, some original BMW wheels at:

http://www.bmw.com.au/script/convertor/ind...newmodel=5sedan

About the AC Schnitzer wheels you can choose several models to your 545 at:

http://www.acschnitzer.com/ws/w_wheelmachi...?lnp=2|3-1-13-1

I can't get you the technical data you need, but if you are searching for new wheels maybe you should visit some dealers in your area and ask them, they will have it for sure.

From what I know I could try to answer your questions:

1 ) center bore
72.5 mm (same as E32/E34/E38 etc) but not E39, which have 74.1mm

2 ) offset of both front and back
To the best of my knowledge, the ET is around 20-22mm for the standard E60 rims. Hartge 19" rims for E60 have ET15 front and ET22 back, so I guess that an ET around 20 is what you need to aim for. I know that the standard E34 rims (except iX) have ET ranging from 20-25mm.

3) Please Explain hub centric rings and how they work
If you would like to fit E39 wheels on an E34 or E60, you would need a centric ring since the center bore on the E39 rim is greater than on the E34 or E60. This ring is fairly cheap and can be bought from most rim retailers. I would not use this on a new car under warranty though as BMW might decline you claims due to using improper rims.

I am not a tire/rim expert, but this is what I have found out when looking for information about new wheels for my own E60.

Don Juan
Those are some awesome wheels. Love them, would like to have ... just to scared of pot-holes and 18" or 19" wheels. Not saying that I can't be more vigilant and go easy when I see them .... that's just the problem. You have to watch out for them or else!!!! How about the ride, comfortable or just firm? How do they respond to minor ripples on the road?

LogicMan, Do you have the sports pacakge? If not then the ride in your car will be smoother thatn mine. In mycar with the SPP the ride is a just a bit stiffier when compared to the original 18's that came with but comfortable. You can feel on the steering wheel the road more.( I like that) Another thing I noticed, the car does not flex as much as it did before, I think is due to the lower profile tire and the car feels it handles better, more precise. I don't see any difference with minor ripples on the road.

I hope this helps.
