Hi all,

I am considering an AC Schnitzer upgrade for my coming 530d. In Sweden, this will void the BMW new car warranty but ACS themselves offer a 3 year warranty on both the ECU and drivetrain if the update is mounted on a new car by an ACS dealer. This would give a better warranty for the drivetrain than offered by BMW (2years in Sweden). Sounds good, or what do you think?

I am also looking into the insurance of the car and according the fine print, an update of the ECU that is approved by the the manufacturer/importer will be covered. ACS is sold through BMW dealers across Europe, but does anyone have information whether this is something approved by the manufacturer BMW in general or not?

All information around this would be greatly appreciated!

Oreo, take a look at this topic:

Some information about tuning the 530d.
I'm interested in doing that upgrade too.

Tuga,

Thanks. What I was interested here was to find out what BMW's official standpoint was towards ACS. I understand that ACS is covered under BMW warranty in UK and in Portugal. It is not covered in Sweden or the Netherlands. I have got the impression from other sources that it is actually ACS that stands for the warranty after the parts have been added and that it is just handled by BMW as they are selling these parts. Anyone else heard something like this?

Does this have anything to do with the legislation in the respective countries (chipping is illegal in Sweden) or to the attitude of the BMW importers in the respective countries? What is BMW's official viewpoint (as a manufacturer)?

It would be interesting to know before the upgrade what the effects on warranties/insurances etc will be...

I have now got the following information from the ACS importer in Sweden:

The ECU upgrade is an add-on to the ECU (like most other tuning-boxes) and it can thus be mounted and dismounted rather quickly if desired... The ACS warranty will cover all parts of the drivetrain (engine, gearbox and rear axis) for the first 3 years / 100000 km and any problems with these parts should be claimed through ACS that will sort out possible contacts with BMW about the reasons for the failures. The warranty will only be valid if the box is mounted on a brand new car and they will arrange for a BMW dealer to mount the box before delivery BUT the upgrade is not officially sanctioned by BMW so there could be problems with insurances etc... I guess that the main issue with the upgrade is the price (?2500+installation) which is almost 4x the price of the box sold by the Swedish tuner KCR Wonder if the warranty + the box is that much better?

Tuga (or anyone else):

The price according to list was not ?2500 as I was initially quoted but aroud ?3000 excluding VAT which brings the total to around ?4000. That sounds a bit hefty for a tuning box What are the prices in other European countries??

The information i have about the prices is around 1.300 EUR in Germany.
Here in Portugal i don't have the information.
I think it's to high in Sweden.
Maybe you can consider taking a ride to Germany and install it there.
Check the "Auto Bild" Magazine. They made a test some months ago.
They have a test drive of three 530d tuned. On of them is ACS tuning. Check the prices in other dealers.
