My Ride: 2008 535i:
(8/07 Build) Metallic Bronze, Beige NASCA Leather, Ventilated Seats, Sport Pkg, Cold Wxr Pkg, Logic-7 Sound, HUD, Night Vision, PDC, Split Rear Seats, NAV, Premium Pkg, Comfort Access, HD Radio, Sport Auto Trans
Current mods: M-Aero Kit, JB4, Motorcepts 6000k HID Foglamps
Umnitza ICE-Lite 10w LED 6000k AE's
1992 Camaro RS:
Fully Restored w/Custom Interior, 5.0L V8, T-tops, OEM Z28 Foglamps, Inst Cluster, & Spoiler, Custom Sound, Too many engine mods to list
Anybody read the Feb issue of BIMMER? Active Autowerks has produced a modded 335i that puts out 410horses /377 lbs torque. Their mods are an ECU piggy-back (which increases boots from 9psi to 14psi, custom exhaust and improved blow off valve. They will also be selling an improved oil and air intercooler to help prolong engine life.
Total cost for everything I mentioned is approx $5k.
Now the 335i can be just as powerful as the "M5 Lite" for thousands less. The article has already cited similar 0-60mph and 1/4 mi times.
I'll refrain (although I admit its difficult) from making additional comments expressing my stance on how far the TT I6 can be pushed as well as that other 295 lbs of torque V-8 thats coming. Instead, I'll let these numbers speak for themselves.
If you haven't read the article yet, its worth a look

Yeah, and Koenig used to take testarossa's for 3 weeks and give them back to you with 1000 HP but no one knew at the time that they all blew up 3 years later. I'll pass.

I have stage III A4 with 105000 miles (modded around 65000) and going strong today.
You can kill an unmodded engine if it's abused (rev-up while it's cold, 15000 mile oil lchange, loading the car with low tire pressure in extended time etc).
On IL6 TT, 2 concerns:
1) trans loading, need to check if ZF auto sport on 335/535 can really handle the extra torque beyond 380.
2) cylinder 5 & 6 toward the firewall is soaking too much heat from the turbo on harsh condition (track event, stop and go in AZ during summer etc) especially with extra output.
If tuner can extract 300HP out of Audi 1.8T 4 banger, I can't see why not 450HP from IL6 3.0TT!
BTW the 1.8T engine is 10 year old tech.

Any forced induction engine will have a higher risk of failure compared to an N/A one. But BMW has started to stake their reputation on TT engines and can't afford to lose face if tuners found out their engines couldn't hold up to tweaks like the Toyotas and Nissans can. I've always believed BMW seriously and deliberately understated the potential for the N54. Now the truth is being exposed.
What I think is funny is that, for the first time, the most powerful 3 series car is no longer reserved to the M class.

i use to know an american friend over here that have had those active autowerks mods on. it was on his 335i..i think they sponsered him as he was very wiling to test new parts on his car, so he had the whole lot. except for the exhaust i think he had a titianium exhast. active auto really helped him as over here there arent alot of places to trust with a BMW and software,..
but i think he was runining the car with 16psi, (not sure and could be wrong) but his cars ("estimate" 450+hp)was keeping up with m5s and even z06s..kept telling him your cars gonna explode, but he said hes had this setup for a while.. he use to cary around an OBD-II tool as his car would sometimes give him the check engine light and he would use that to clear the fault...
i wonder, how hes car is doing back in the states...gonna look him up in the e90post
