Default 06 M5 wheels on a 04 525

Guys, take me to school a bit on wheels and tires on a E60 525. Currently on the car I have 225/55 16s. I'm looking at a craigslist add for 19 inch stock rims from a 06 M5. From what I've read, I need to keep all four tires the same size to avoid errors from ABS / low tire. But my concern, will the width of the M5 rims cause me a clearance problem on the 04 525? I seem to recall some wider fenders on the M5. I appreciate any insight.

The only reason I could think of for you needing to keep all four tires the same size is if you have an Xi. If you do have an Xi, these wheels will not fit due to the offsets. If you are Non Xi, these wheels will fit fine, but you will need to pay attention to the tire sizes to ensure there is no rubbing. Recommended size on Non M E60

Fronts: 245/35/19
Rears: 275/30/19

I ran these as have most forum members with no issues.

Thanks for the insight. First, NO Xi, plain old 525i. Second, I was under the impression that the flat tire indicator looked at the wheel speed from the ABS sensors to determine if a tire was flat (I have rubber valve stems) and if you mixed tire sizes it would set off the sensor. Hmmm, maybe some bad information. Thanks!

You can reset the pressure sensor after you fit the new wheels/tires so it will read wheel speed of the new set.

I'm not familiar with the width of the e60 M5 wheels, but I assume they are no wider than 10". My 08 535i sport came stock with 18x9.5's in the rear and 18x8.5's up front.
Tires are 275/40zr18 (rear) and 245/35zr18 (front). My fenders are the same size as your so I don't see why there would be any issues.

Don't go any wider than 8.5" on the front and 10" in the rear. Anything over 10" will likely cause rubbing issues unless you roll the fenders. The 275's on my 535i are more than enough rubber especially with the Michelin PSS tires. I can brake launch from ~2000 rpms with absolutely no slipping at all.

Keep in mind, the larger diameter of the wheels is off-set by running lower profile tires which will make the ride a little bit harsher. When going with 19s it really pays to get some high quality tires that will help keep the smoothness and comfort.

I'm currently running 235/35/19 on a 9 inch wheel and 285/30/19 on a 10 with no rubbing issues.

2008 535.

I did have the abs fault issue when I was running 35 series up front and 40 in the rear.

With the new sizes I'm good.
