I know it's bad form to refer to other boards, but this problem is serious enough to merit attention. The VANOS oil line in the 2006 M5 has been experiencing a high rate of failure (leakage) due to a bad crimp joint. Everyone with a 2006 needs to watch their oil level carefully. Details of the problem can be found here:

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=62430

Anyone taking their car into service should ask the technician about this problem. It's great to have these Boards to share this type of information!

My friend had this failure on his 2005, with 32000km on it!

I?ll check mine next week, when I?m at the dealer to have my LH front light ( moisture ), horn ( stopped working ) and 2nd ( now it?s on the LH rear window ) window motor ( keeps warning of anti trap function and will not close with the one touch function ) replaced!

What happened to my avatar?????

Someone changed it?

Looks like the same avatar to me. The low shot, 3/4 left-front view.

Yes...the 1st m5 wich arrived here also had this problem and because of the VERY VERY hard stress smth happened to the engine. The car went back to the dealership....hope they fix this asap for future models. BMW doesn't need more problems...it already has quite a few....luckly they are minor.

Cidair sorry but your signature says 305km/h without the limiter! Is that ture? Can it go faster than that? I heard smth like 205 mph and that's about 320-325 km/h. Did you test the speed or for now it's just a fact on a paper? Thanx

I removed the limiter at the BMW M factory, so that?s why its " only " 305 km/h ( OEM tyre related ). So the second limiter is still there. Hartge delimiting device will take out both limiters. Then the car will do 330 km/h ( on the speedo ).

I haven?t tested the top speed on mine. Only managed 285 km/h due to rain and traffic on the way back to Sweden. My friend drove back one day later and he saw 306 km/h on his speedo!!

ONLY 285 due to rain (... and snow and hail..., etc.). Now, if it would have been sunny!

Sorry for being a little unclear.

I was only doing 270 km/h in the rain!
Too dangerous to drive faster

My avatar is back

I believe this is actually an old problem.

The first batch of E60 M5s delivered in Europe had this oil problem.

Not good for BMW ...
