I have been wanting an E60 M5 for a long time. I currently have a Z4. Is this one going to be a terrible idea with such high miles? http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/2509799182.html

The price is so low, and I want it so bad, I just don't want to make a bad decision.

Such a beautiful car and color combo. I believe members saying the 2006 SMG is more prone to problems. Maybe some M5 owners can chime in.

Awesome color combo but I wouldn't jump on it at that mileage or even that year. Read a few posts about some real SMG problems with earlier build M5's from 05'to 07' I forget the exact cutoff.
Try getting a full service history on it.
What exactly was the "Full Service" they did? New brakes and tires aren't gonna cut it...

Well, I had a friend pull some info on it, from carfax. It was in one front end accident. Sold at auction to the dealership that has it now. Went and looked at it, and everything looked super clean, but I'm no expert. As far as the "full service", carfax just says this: Oil and filter changed chassis lubricated
Maintenance inspection completed. That was done at a BMW dealer.

Check out the suspension too. Control arms, shocks and ball joints can get pretty pricey if you don't do them yourself.
Main thing would be that transmission though. That car is completely out of warranty...

Honestly I'd save for an 08' and up.

Even though the color is gorgeous and the interior and the price tag even, like jgt says save up and get an 08 and up to have peace of mind.

If you can afford the risk and maintenance I think it is gorgeous. These cars require a shit ton of maintenance. Clutch is 5k, brakes 2k, suspension components are insane, not to mention bushings etc. I sold mine with less than 1/2 the mileage for 34k and the market is very tough right now for m5's. It is definitely a buyers market. I'd try to hold on for a lower mileage one. A far as the clutch goes it's part of owning the car. It goes every 30-50k miles. It's a small price to pay for the pleasure of owning one of these.
