I just bought an M5 and was wondering what you guys thought about this idea. I have a friend who is an extremely good welder. He welds on Daytona Prototypes for the Grand-Am Series, and he can do almost anything! I want him to fabricate pipes to remove the secondary cats, like the Section 1 Pipes. Then, leave the section 2 stock with the resonators, and remove the rear mufflers with just straight pipes. I am young and loud cars don't bother me. I have straight piped everything from my E55 to 3 Cayenne Turbo's. I was wondering with the high compression if this is a bad idea? Would it affect performance? Would it not provide sufficient backpressure? How loud do you think it would be? Thanks guys

BTW, this is my first post, and I recently acquired a 2006 BMW Black Sapphire Met. M5 with Black interior.

it'll sound like this -

since the m5 is a high revving engine and doesn't have much torque down low, it probably doesn't require that much backpressure, like on a high torque v8. on the other hand, losing that backpressure may compromise the already low torque even more...
