Let's face it: BMW dropped the ball by creating a big time delayed throttle response between flooring the accelerator of an E60 and getting full power from the engine. That's why there is a market for the SB, I can't get over how much slower my 550 feels from a stoplight than my E39 540 did. The 540 had a much more sensitive throttle which was much more like an on/off switch. My 550's throttle feels much less like a sports car and more like a luxury car. Once my 550's engine is at full boil, it is much faster than my 540 was but the delay in full power that occurs after flooring the gas is maddening.
And I can tell you from a few meets, Joe likes to go fast from a stoplight. He's the prototypical SB buyer.

I don't think anyone said it makes the car faster. It does IMHO make the car more fun to drive with quicker throttle response, that's all. It's only around $300, so it's not like a major investment. I like my RPI scoop, too. The SB adds to the fun around town, and the scoop adds a little kick on the highway. But, to each his own.
