Soft Paint on M5?

My Ride: 2006 M5 Silvertone /Aluminum Trim

I noticed that I got my first paint chip on the hood in the middle of the hood - wtf!
Clear armor can't help there - anyone with soft paint problems? I heard others have had this problem and painted and repainted the hood. Although I had my 545 for almost two years with no problems (clear armor all around).
Can this be fixed without painting the entire hood? Or should I just wait for more - and of course I have Silverstone which is probably the most difficult to hide.
