The real deal with MDM
thanks to you at m5board.com, Maggo, the company who makes the traction and stability systems for bmws replied once in a thread, it goes like this:

You mean the M Track Mode of M3 CSL or Competition?

So I guess the question, what is the difference between pushing the button once, and holding it for 10 seconds?
No M-Car has the "cascaded passive button".
In M-Cars one push of the button turns of DSC and ASC (Traction Control)
The newer non M-BMW's have a so called "cascaded passive button".
One short press on the button switches to DTC Mode wich is nearly the same than M-Track Mode. Both systems (DSC and ASC) are still activated but with higher thresholds.
One long push on the button deactivates DSC and ASC (DSC light is permanently on) . Now you have an ABS only car.

its just that there have been many question upon the "issue" regarding what mdm was, what dtc is, blablabla and the ultimate question, what does pressing that dsc button actually do. There have been many threads...questions
