Default Faulty Oil Level Sensor

Hi Guys,

Been trawling the internet to no avail, wondering if anyone out there can help.

I have a faulty oil level sensor warning. Car has been serviced properly with 10w60TWS

Oil level sensor replaced, still get the warning.

Had an auto electrician look at the car and it was giving out a low voltage, and some gremlins so thought I would change that as it can potentially cause a oil level error. Still get the warning however, now when I reset the onboard, for around 10 seconds afterwards I get an oil temperature reading, then it drops back to 0 (50 degrees) and the fault comes back. I am still not getting enough time to get a reading (if that would even be possible) on the oil level.

Codes it is still throwing are:

278FH/10127
279BH/10139

Which I am led to believe are still an alternator communication error and IBS warning.

When I had her serviced at BMW they said they could not reset the oil service light, because of this error. Sounds about right if the engine cant confirm oil quantity/quality I would think it cannot 'confirm' the oil has been changed even if we tell it it has.

Any ideas on what it could be? or what next?

Cheers
Earl

I'm having the same issue. Changed Sensor and still unable to reset the oil change mileage. Checked the wiring, didn't see anything.

Morning,

So I ended up ha ding it over to BMW, the damage was pretty substantial. I had corrosion on the engine management chip caused by condensation running down the earthing cable (attached to the inner wing). Check the plugs/sockets on the harness for any blue corrosion.

It could be an issue with the alternator too just so you know.

It costs me £1600 to get new chip installed and reprogrammed at BMW

Hope this helps.
