I tell ya though... i am at 16k miles, and without a factory warranty now... and i am terrified of this clutch, flywheel replacement business people talk about. The aftermarket warranties i looked into seemed too expensive ($4000-5500) and with that in mind, hope to hell i don thave these problems.

Good luck with the purchase...

Clutch/flywheel replacement is normal maintenance be prepared for it. Its not a "problem" unless somethings wrong with other components of your transmission

Depends on many factors, driving syle, the conditions your car is driven in, what settings you drive in.... Etc

I've gone over 130,000 on a stock clutch before. And I've also gone only 20,000 in another car before needing a clutch. City driving kills the car as does racing around constantly right now I'm getting close to 60,000 on the original clutch on my m5 and I drive it 50/50 gentle and tough. But there are so many factors that you really just don't know when a regular interval would be

This is the car I am considering:

http://www.eimports4less.com/detail-...d-5400681.html

Asking price is $42k.

As its 3 years old (or 3 years in service), its averaged 12k miles, which is less than I drive, but more than I would prefer.

Thoughts?
Sweet looking ride. I would definitely buy an extended warranty when the factory one runs out. Otherwise, one major repair could be quite a lot of billable hours.

Hmm...for some reason this doesn't sound right. Original warranty is 4yr/50K miles so I can't see someone paying to extend it for an additional 1yr and 5K miles?? Or it's on 06 model but it's in service date was in 07 so that's why the warranty goes to Apr 2011 (4yrs)? The 55K miles mentioned is probably a typo.

But yes, you can extend the warranty but you'll have to do it before the original warranty expires. You can also buy extended maintenance which is separate from extended warranty and will cover normal wear and tear items like clutch and brakes.

On the SMG/clutch issue, there are several SIBs that will fix it for free if your symptoms qualify but of course, if it's just abused or over-used then it would be out of pocket.

I've seen a lot of people getting their E60 M5 clutches replaced at around 40k miles. I wonder if they do a lot of city driving or what.

In any case. To get my clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing replaced my tech told me it would've easily cost me around $6000 had I not been under warranty.

Now im really nervous lol... The fact of the matter is, they were not clear (thirs party warranty company) on whether or not they would cover the clutch wear/replacement. This was a huge grey area for me.. and the cost for the warranty was around 5k... I ended up not getting a third party aftermarket warranty... lets hope it pans out the way i want it to!

I talked to seller/dealer.

He explained that car was a "dealer" exec car for 3 mos/5k miles, which is why BMW extended warranty. Not sure I beleive it or not. Hmmm....
