Okay so my friend is selling his M5 (2006 with about 50,000 km (projected), SMG tranny and Indianapolis Red) in March of next year. He's looking at getting an AWD car instead and decided to sell his M5. He is going to sell me the car for $40,000 Canadian. So I need to first sell my 2006 530xi for at least $30,000 Canadian and my dad is willing to cover the $10,000 spread (yes I'm spoiled no need to say so). All I have to do is pay for half the gas while I drive it. What do you guys think?

If the car still has warranty - DO EEET!!!!!! Get one while you have the chance and are spoiled, I may not agree with spoiling, but hey - while you are take advantage, real life and adulthood are a harsh reality. Just drive it responsibly, not like the threads posted by your fellow Canadian.

Like John said, make sure it has warranty and then GET IT!!! Hey if I had the means and my son was a good person, he'd be driving nice cars too. Just be responsible.

Third party warranty on the car? Or through BMW? Cause my friend did tell me he would get everything fixed on the car prior to selling me it (few scratches and high O2 emissions ATM). Does BMW even allow you to get their warranty after it has expired or no?

And yes I am spoiled but I am a student at the University in my city so I'm not wasting my life partying or anything like that. And I'm not an asshole to my parents or anything like that. I do what I'm told.

And don't worry guys, after seeing all that happen with 550i_Freak I won't do what he did. And another thing is that if I get a ticket, just one, the car is taken away from me and most likely sold. My dad is very strict when it comes down to how we drive. He doesn't care what we drive, but how we do it.

Yeah, if you get the M learn from Krozi. He's a good kid and a good example of a young man that appreciates what he has
And yes, get a 3rd party warranty, you'd be surprised how little the BMW warranty actually covers

With 3rd party or BMW ext warranties, you still have to be within the original OEM warranty to get them. That was what I was told but not sure if all 3rd party warranty companies require this.

That's what I heard if you wanted to go with the BMW warranty again, that you had to be still covered under your previous warranty to extend it. I'm not too sure on third party warranties, so if someone could enlighten me that would be great.

I got a third party warranty from Easy Care and they required the same thing.

Maybe the market is different in Canada, but expect $20,000-$22,000 for your 2006 530xi if you're lucky. I tried selling my 2007 530xi privately last month, asking $30,000. I got 2 offers, one for $23,500 and one for $24,100. Wound up trading it in for $24,000 to a dealer.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it would be quite a long shot to get that amount for a 2006. The depreciation on these cars is murder.
