But instead of an M5 I will be looking at an 07 550. If you don't mind the sidetrack, what branch are you in?

The Military Car Sales offers US Spec vehicles just as you would from your local BMW dealer. So the only thing you have to worry about is the delivery time. You just hope that it is there when you get back from wherever in the world you are. It is an OK way for service members and diplomats to save money on buying some foreign vehicles.

Sorry, can't help you with the sales tax, I had to pay it to register the car in Virginia. One way would be to register it in Delaware which doesn't require any sales tax. I was thrilled about not paying the guzzler tax cause I was ready to pay it. If I had known that I could have added a few more options to the car.
Its a good deal, go for it!

I purchased my wife's 06 525 through the military program last summer. This program is totally regulated by BMWNA. In fact, while I was in Germany and was able to see and sit in a M5 and M6 in the German showroom, I couldn't even get a price for the US version M5 because the price hadn't been released for the states yet. It was not like I was going to get one, but I wanted a base line for my dreams.
I said that to say you don't have to worry about alerting anyone or worring about the warranty. Everything will be in the system. They also won't sell you a German spec car through this program if you plan to bring it to the states.
You are not going to beat that pricing anywhere in the states for a while. And since the prices in the program are fixed, it is not like you will get a better deal later. So go ahead and pull the trigger and keep your head down while your over there.
