I am looking at buying a M5, and wanted to know if you all think this is a good deal or not. Advantages is that it is CPO'd and had 1 owner. Disadvantages is the mileage, and CPO doesn't cover everything on the extended warranty.

Price: $53,781
Mileage: 43,076
Options: Silver w/ Black interior, heads up display, navigation, logic 7 sound, comfort access system, SMG, PDC, multi-function seats w/ lumbar support.

Pics should be attached. If not you can view it at: http://www.tischerbmw.net/certified-cars.aspx and do a search for 2006 vehicles under 5 series

Opinions?

I'd shop around....I got mine at the end of August. It's a 2006 with all options except heads-up and had only 21K miles. I paid 49,995 for it. I don't know what the CPO is worth, but the standard warranty seems to be enough for most of us. Prices should still be low even with the gas prices dropping. I thik you could find one for significantly less, especially in that common color and option combination.

I've seen some for just less than $53k, are lower mileage, like in the 20ks, but doesn't have the added benefit of a extended warranty/CPO from BMW. They are still under the original warranty, which will expire in '09/10. I'm still shopping around, but i would think having a car CPO from BMW would add more of a piece of mind?

My 2cents: I preferred CPO when searching for my car as well. The challenge i found was the NoVA/MD area simply didn't have a large selection of CPO vehicles with the options i wanted (particularly the Sport pkg) and the pricing in general tended to be higher then say in areas of larger volume sales like, SoCal.

So in the case of the M5, a very exclusive/unique car, there just isn't 3+ to choose from on a given CPO lot in this area so they will be less inclined to sell at prices you might see in other areas. I continue to be curious even after buying my 5er and look at inventory in the area...it is vary rare you find an M5 CPO ( let alone a non-M sport=) ).

I could be totally off base but this was how i justified it (wanted the car really bad)

I'd have to agree with you Idonkare. DC/Nova areas, its hard to find exactly what you want...and alot of the people in the area have $$$ and buy new ones, or CPO b/c they don't really care about the options.

But i do prefer the peace of mind with CPO

+1. ONE red cog of death and the CPO more than pays for itself.

you only have 6+k left under warranty i'd be scared, its best if you could shop around with a low mileage
it looks very nice but you don't wanna spend a lot of $$$ after warranty has ended no deal for me

I agree ... CPO is well worth the premium price a dealer might ask. A pre-owned M5 approaching the mileage cut off of original warranty is risky business. Not that these cars ever break, RIGHT!
