Oil Change Interval
If your driving conditions really require you to do oil changes that frequently I suggest you keep a simple record of the date and mileage but only reset the Condition Based iDrive Service at the mileage (15K or so) as tracked by the cars sensors.
Of course you'll be using oil and filter that meet or exceed BMW's specs - RIGHT?
BTW, in my opinion, unless your BMW is a taxicab, driven on the track every week, or you never reach normal operating temps when driving your car, or never never never take an extended (20+ miles) highway drives AND IF you are using the necessary quality synthetic oil and BMW spec oil filters ... changing oil every 5K miles is a waste of oil and money.
I see you've posted this in the M5 section of the forum.
IF I were intent on preserving that motor and want to keep your car running happily for years and years and years I'd probably go to a 7500 mile change cycle (or once a year - whichever came first. Do not reset your iDrive CBS setting for the in-between service unless you can make the setting change in coding as was reported earlier.

I do not like 15k mile oil change interval as this is BMW 50k free maintenance program to save money and I think becouse of this all bmws develope oil leaks later on as the overused oil causes gaskets and seals to deteriorate. 5-7k sounds excepting to me also.
I change my engine oil every 5k miles, my gearbox and diff oil get changed every 12 months. I realise this is much more frequently than BMW recommend but its a small price to pay for piece of mind IMO
If you are running a pre-LCI e60 M5, you should change the oil every 5000 miles without question. The first generation of S85 engine has well documented VANOS pump issues which are greatly magnified once the oil starts getting dirty. BMW's VANOS system is mechanical on this engine and a blown/seized VANOS pump will almost certainly cost you over $10k to repair. Do a search on M5Board.com and you will see that nearly everyone there (including myself) changes the oil on or around 5000 miles.
