Hi Friends:

Things have changed since my last look at the M5's US peer group. I think of this group as all cars falling into the 12 to 13 sec. ET range tested by the big three US auto magazines. So, here is my lastest ranking. I sorted first on 1/4 ET, second on 1/4 TV, and finally on 0 to 60 time. To not confuse issues, I include all test data for cars that have tested in both the 12 to 13 second range and below or above this range. I also put my favorites in bold. I wish the US magazines would use consistent test procedures and adjust for weather and altitude consistently.

Averaging can help given the inconsistent procedures used. So, for the cars having multiple entries, I provide averages at the bottom sorted as indicated above. Happy thinking and discussing if you care to do so. I am hoping that any discussing will be based on objective data and thinking--not along the lines of "my dad can beat your dad up" or "yeah, but BMW's are about way more than straight-line accelerations; just throw in some twisties, and ...."

Both 12 to 13 Seconds and Faster than 13 Seconds:

Znod, this is a great list to have. The 0-60 times and 1/4 ET are very close for these cars, but I wonder how they stack higher speed, e.g.g, 50-120 mph, or 70-130 mph, etc. Just looked at PhillyM5 video in the Lounge, you see a BIG difference in performance of an M5 vs. Lambo at higher speeds.

Glad you like the list B32. I wish I had more data, but it is too tedious to collect it. And, when I get lazy, I use the road test summaries--which provide very limited data. But, the point you make is why I sorted on TV second. I wanted to "point to" the cars that might be even with others, or a tad behind them, 1/4-ET wise, but that would pull away shortly thereafter.

You are very welcome. ats77. What is the M5 on top of?

And, I hate it when my roof flys off. I just go get it and then weld it back on again. I assume you are talking about Vets without fixed roofs. I didn't know about the problem. Maybe that's why all but the Z06's are selling for good prices right now.

Often I see $2,500 off of MSRP advertized in the papers. I am thinking seriously about reducing our cars to two in two more years. I was thinking about an M3 and a 550 (or whatever) i, but lately I have been thinking about the 550i type car and a new ZO6.

I have a problem with my Z06 for the first time in 4 years. Suddenly the drivers power window does not work. The Z's especially are really well put together--handbuilt engines and all.
