My Ride: E60 M5, silver gray/black/aluminum, all options except rear seat heating E30 M3, white/tan

Does anybody know if this rubber hose is left open by design? Or, at least if any of you can look under the hood (driver side, by battery terminal) and reply if you see the same open hose (see the picture)?

On my car I have the same hose. It is the vent tube for the winscreen washer fluid reservoir.

Yep - it's an overflow pipe for the headlight and windscreen washer fluid reservoir

Yep...if you'll pour liquid too much it will come back on the hose. Strange they put it there...it should be elsewhere...maybe down low.

I think its function is to avoid any vacuum in the washer fluid container.....like a breather to maintain atmospheric pressure.
