This is what it looks like under the hood installed on a M6.

More pictures of SPP's project M6.
This picture actually doesn't show the RPI Scoops. It's mounted behind the kidney grills. If you look at the e90 link, it's the eighth picture down.

I had thought about getting the red scoops so it'll look like two evil eyes behind my black grill but decided to just stick with the black ones.

I believe the dyno numbers above are just from the scoops but when combined with the BMC filters, they've seen as high as 22rwhp gain on an M6. I think that's because that particular car had software which compensated for the increased air flow.

There's more than 30 M5 owners out there with the RPI, its the best mod per dollar so far and with free dyno test. Like I said I've been at the "other" board too long and wanted to share this with anyone here.

Again this site is so much faster, and a bit more mature.

Ah there we go... exactly the pic I wanted to see... ya... its just me but I dont like how it looks behind the grill... Black would be good... as it will blend in.

I agree but for $300 and approx 15 proven hp - its still the best mod I have ever seen!

Can you post pictures? Just wonder what it would have looked like on my car had I gone for the red ones.

Most of the info is on this thread on M5Board: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=105380

Scroll down and you'll find links to another thread with dyno charts.

Does it only work on a M5/M6, or is it also interesting on a 645 (for example)?

And what will it do for HP in a 645 (for example)?

BTW: It looks very simple and cheaply built (not even fancy). It looks even easy to built it yourself!?

It's a simple concept that I'm sure can be applied to all cars. These scoops help direct air directly into the intake units mounted behind the grills on the M5/M6. Those tubes are faced sideways so the scoops channel more airflow into them. I'm unclear how the 645 is set up but I think you can create a similar scoop.

These are built by hand by the guys at RPI but I'm sure they have tools to help with the build. I'm sure a lot of the cost is due to the time involved in bending and cutting and then powdercoating each unit. Also, RPI was able to verify actual gains with their dyno. If you customize one yourself for your 645, you'll have to verify that it works. Maybe you can just contact them and see if they would expand it to other cars?
