I'm really looking for a m5 now, hope to get one in the next few months. My question is I know gas prices are headed north which scare me. How much do you guys average in gas per month? I'm realistically expecting 2x the amount I currently spend each month if I got one.

I'm in NJ/NY and roughly spend $400 a month just for local daily driving.
Definitely consider getting tuning for the M5 to save on gas.
i know the ESS Tuning makes a HUGE difference in gas mileage.

Agreed

Honestly, if you are concerned about gas mileage, this might not be the car you want. I do a ton of highway driving (50 miles on the highway roundtrip commute) and I'm lucky to squeeze 15-16 mpg out of a tank. The best I've ever done is on a pure highway run, I got 18 like the car is quoted at from BMW. The issue for me is not the sucky mpg (I couldn't care less) but the small tank. I hate refilling constantly. So I coded the option to remove the first annoying low gas "bong" noise that comes up at 1/4 tank. Still get a warning when it hits fuel reserve.

I actually think the fuel economy on this car is quite impressive, considering it's a high revving V10 powered,2 ton full sized sedan

I have a '09 535. I fill up with 93 Ultimate Sunoco.

Considering I barely use the Steptronic, I don't think there is a huge difference in gas spending on a 535 and an M5.

Here are the statistic in my NYC driving:

$62.00 per tank fill up.
$124.00 per week
$496.00 per month
$5952.00 per year

I get average 12-13MPG. (Yeah it's that bad). 200 - 210 Miles per tank.

Over the last couple of years the fuel economy on the 535 is dropping. I used to get 225-230 Miles on a full tank.

Now I barely can make it to 200 Miles on a full tank.

FYI, This is all city driving.

OMG!

my 545i with the Dinan stage 3 tune and some other mods still got me a solid 300 miles per tank....wowzers. did u get a tune or something? it might be time for maintenance on that poor E60 lol

but yes, i avg about 200 miles to a tank and usually do at least 400 miles a week so we are in the same boat. and of course its always 93 octane....tho it would be nice to find a higher octane if possible somewhere here in the city just to try it out

Yikes, I'm sure that would get old constantly being at a gas station every few days + the rising gas costs. 535i tuned doesn't sound like its that much better either
