I also saw there were many emmys for sale in Germany. That's why I can't understand why people are talking about 2 years long waiting lists. In two years time you can buy a nice one for 50.000-60.000?..

Thats the problem with mass production. No difference from the Honda Type R and all the other Japanese made performance cars.
IMHO, BMW should slow down the production of these cars, otherwise they become too common.

The romantic in me would also like to think BMW cares about things like exclusivity, but the reality is they're in business to maximize profits (and shareholder value) so they'll produce as many as they can sell--and given the first 3 months allocations to US dealers, that's quite a few!

yup, there are going to be alot of E60 M5s...from what i've read, i think they are saying every 5th E60 will be an M5?? thats alot of cars...for those that want exclusivity, you need to spend a bit more and go for the M6...now this car should be quite rare by comparison...

I think everyone is confused with the E39 M5 where it was really that exclusive and the wait lists were THAT long... Didnt anticipate BMW to be mass producing them like this now. *shrugs*

This car remains the best 4 door car under $100M. If they want to make as many as we want why cry? My friendly mega dealer says this time BMW is going to make enough M5's. That's good for the dealers, good for BMW, and for the guy who worries that there are going to be too many $90M cars on the road, let the market forces decide. If you want exclusivity, buy an M1.
Why let Porsche make all the money on 4 doors in 2 years?

The E39 M5 had a long wait list due to the great economy at the time, much different market today.

There are no deals there, only availability. Cost on resale with zero miles from Germany is USD$91,500. and that doesn't include shipping, prep or the cost in time and money getting it cleared through customs.

With all of that technology and a high-revving motor, I'd be worried about serious bugs in the first generation, a la the E46 M3. Production for those was also high, and one of their vendors (for bearings?) reportedly didn't meet original specs. The result was lots of thrown rods and after originally claiming driver error, BMW had to extend the warrranties for the early production models.

Luckily for me, I can't afford an M5 so I don't have this problem. I'd love to pick up a used 2007 manual M5 in about 5 years, but the maintenance costs of that car out of warranty could be frightening. Perhaps I'll go backwards and try to find a nice low mileage 2003 E39 M5 instead.
