Excellent sound. Almost as good as my Hartge with powerpipe

Hartge only claimed maximum 5 hp gain with their race system ( wich I have on my car ).

I?m very sceptic towards 20 hp gain!

I do find also that gain weird. Possible but every other tuner claims way less figures. And btw why does the torque drop? Shouldn't that imrpove also?

I don't believe the Supersprint HP claims will hold up as an average over a number of M5's. The 5-10 HP numbers are much more realistic.

The stock exhaust is tuned to give optimum backpressure at lower rpm to maximize the torque. Most aftermarket exhausts lower the backpressure to give more HP in the high rpm range, but lower backpressure can give you less torque at lower rpms. It's pretty normal for an aftermarket exhaust to give up some lower rpm torque to get more HP at higher rpm.

Another tradeoff to keep in mind is although a lot of these systems will save weight, it's generally because they are using thinner gage stainless steel. That means they will be more susceptible to stress and fatique failures over time.

20HP more just by a exhaust????
why wouldn't BMW put a better exhaust already?
or you think they make 20HP less on M5 on purpose just by putting bad exhaust??
No, you guys are reading the website wrong.

It says:
BMW claims OEM is 507 HP
But they dyno'ed the OEM exhaust at 529.8 HP
And they dyno'ed the Supersprint at 543.7 HP.

So the Supersprint is only 13.9 HP more than OEM
(still not bad though)

PS: Although most exhausts do not raise HP by much, keep in mind that it IS possible for some aftermarket exhausts to raise HP by a significant amount. Its rare, but possible. IIRC, the Fabspeed exhaust was known to raise the 996 Turbo's HP by 30-40 HP, and they proved it by dyno'ing it.

Great info. I was thinking pretty much the same thing. There has to be a tiny balance between backpressure and pozitive pressure.

Anyway 13 bhp gain insn't that bad at all for a NA engine. But i'm sure the sound is going to make all the money you pay. You can hardly feel +13 bhp. (At least in this kind of cars)
