M5 squib ( clock) ring

anyone know much about faulty clock rings in the steering column?

i have the issue of airbag light and no horn which suggests it’s a faulty clock ring but everything else seems to work. Steering wheel buttons and paddle shifts etc are all good. Just horn and airbag light that won’t go.

my question is. Is it possible for it to be faulty but only effect some things?

Thanks for any help👍

What does the clock spring have to do with the buttons or shift paddle. Take it apart to see what's going on but read if there's codes first.

I’ve checked codes

undervoltage detected in airbag system. Also horn doesn’t work so wondering if there related after reading this article.

only thing is it doesn’t mention weather or not only a couple of things can be effected or weather once it’s broke nothing on the steering wheel works.

The clock spring will only effect the air bag and horn nothing else on the steering wheel. How long has this been going on. Have you checked had your battery checked to make sure it is good? I see that it is an under voltage meaning to me it's a battery issue or cable/plug issue. Check your battery first then go from there. I've had airbag lights come on due to a drained/weak battery.

Yeah I assumed it was battery at first so replaced it last week and registered it to the car but still same issue.
Ive tried just about everything to get this light off the dash..

new passinger seat mat
new battery
new BST cable and IBS cable

I might aswell change the clock ring for how much they cost. I just wasn’t sure weather it was that with it only effecting 2 things.

When you changed the battery we're the lights already on. If so have them cleared to see if they come back. Once they are triggered they must be cleared. They do not clear themselves. Once you clock spring has an issue your horn will not work until the issue is fixed or cleared which ever applies.

Yes they were on before I replaced the battery. I tried clearing with Carly and INPA after battery was replaced but they don’t budge at all.

Ive ordered a clock ring now from a breaker m5 so hopefully that sorts it. This is the last thing I can think of.

it just puzzled me as everything else on the wheel works perfect.

Thanks for help mate

I didn't think carly nor INPA could reset airbag errors. I could be wrong. I just use INPA to troubleshoot and clear errors for other things. For restraint and airbag lights I have another device for that.

Did you take it apart to see if it was the actual spring that was bad or you just ordered to have if you need it once you take it apart.

Oh right I didn’t know INPA wouldn’t clear them. What tool do you use?
no I’ve not looked at it yet, just ordered in case it is that. I’m running out of options now.

I use an innova 3150f for abs/srs/battery resets. Just because it's one of my easier tools to get out.

I honestly don't know if INPA does reset it. I know when my restraint light came on the first time due to a weak battery INPA didn't clear it. I had to use my Innova.
