hi

Im saving to buy an m5 and i dont really know much about them! is there any good features i should be looking out for?

Whats the difference between a SMG M5 and a regular M5?

Do they all come with the head up display and the seats that adjust when your in 'm' mode?

thanks

The M5 engine was built for the SMG transmission. I would not get the M5 with a standard, manual transmission. Not sure about the heads up display and seats.
Something to think about..... if you drive a lot, the M5 may not be the car for you. The thing just sucks gas and has the same size gas tank as the regular 5 series (18 gallon tank). You will get about 10 mpg or so. You will be at the gas station filling up every 180-200 miles.

If that's true, that's very disappointing... I can't imagine buying an M5 that wasn't a stick.

I disagree with both. Can't imagine why a manual transmission would not match with the engine of the M5 but having SMG is a joy to drive with. I am not missing the manual or automatic transmission at all.

It is true. Don't get me wrong. The M5 with a true manual transmission will be amazing, but the engine was built specifically for the SMG transmission. Research.

So what is the difference with the SMG gearbox?

I dont mind the fuel bills, i work away from home and have a company van so the car will just be my to for when im home

i had a 535d before but it went up in flames as you may have seen on my other post (did'nt realise BMW were so flammible) and i liked the car a lot but im after something a little more fun now.

It brings a smile on my face every minute I drive it. It is just so much fun, not to mention the sound (howl) of the V10.

If you have the chance, do it ! but find a decent one with some warranty on it, parts are expensive.

sound is awesome. Unfortunately BMW misnamed the car; it should not have been the M5 but rather the 5MPG...

A few points to note:

1) SMG is a 7 speed while the manual is a 6 speed
2) The manual didn't come out till model year 2007
3) HUD and adjustable seats are both options, not standard equipment. I'd definitely get one with both features.
