Quick Question:
Is the M5 being considered as a standard Sedan or an Exotic Sports Car to the insurance companies?
I'm wondering how the rates will be on a M5 compared to a 545.

I think M5 is still only a high performance sports sedan, not an exotic sports car. It is just like AMG vehicles, I personally don't consider a 600+hp SL65 AMG a exotics, since it shares so many things with SL500. M5 is the top of the line 5-series in my eyes. Although it is very very fast straight line, it can't compare with F430 or 911 Turbo in curves due to its massive size and weight. But that is just me, a $90k car could easily be thought of a exotics.

My insurance rate with my carrier doubles with the new M5 over my 2002 M5. I checked with Geico, and it was an additional $300 over the doubled cost, with less coverage. My agent says the new car is a class Y car, while the old one was a T. She says this is Ferrari territory, and there are few cars with rates higher than the new M5.
