Hi everyone, I'm looking in the market for a 2006 M5. You can find some deals as low as $39,000 these days. But most of these have about 50k miles on them. I was wondering from everyone's experience, is it dangerous buying an M5 with this many miles? I know BMW are hit and miss with reliability and maintenance on these bad boys are probably very expensive. Thoughts?

Aside from your regular 'cushion' of 4 months (or more) salary, keep an additional $6k to $8k in bank collecting interest, and you will likely be fine.

Don't forget insurance costs, tires, wheels, etc. Tire and wheel dealers love those low profiles, as they are very expensive.

Just bought mine with 66000miles on the clock .......no probs so far (touch wood), had to replaced a full set of tyres at ?1000 sterling (och !!)
but then its a expensive car ...so expensive maintenance go hand in hand

Assuming you guys drive normally, how long does it take for the 19" tires to go bald? 1 year? How much are they? I hear stories of $1000+ for 4 tires alone. Don't even know about the oil change and normal maintenance.

Hi everyone, understood that a m5 will comand lots of $ in maintenance and tires are expensive. From everyone who owns one, what brand of tires do you think lasts the longest and you have satisfactory results? Something not the most expensive, but not the cheapest, good value for the price. Assuming normal driving, how long do they last before you change them?

BMw reccommend the Michelin Pilot sport or Continental tyres for the M5 , oh there is no such thing as good value on performance tyres ,
the tyres lasting depend mostly on yr driving style as well , I would say somewhere arounf 8-10K miles
