It depends what you are looking for... I feel that the M3 is a better all around car because it has both track history and daily driving ability... The M5 is definitely faster in a straight line... The M3 has better cornering so it gives a better feel... Yet the M5 is no granny around the corners... If i were you i would test drive them both to see what really suits your needs... They are both awesome cars and neither decision will be disappointing... Good luck

If you like smaller cars then M3 is def a better car plus the DCT tranny is much much better than m5's jerky SMG. Personally i do not like small cars so i'll run over an M3 with a bulldozer that is if i can catch up to it.

I was fortunate enough to convince my brother to get an M3. First and most noticeable difference behind the wheel is the transmission. The DCT and SMG has a different feel. The DCT is smoother and driver/passenger of the cars will enjoy a comfortable ride. The SMG shifts are hard and jerky. You KNOW when it's going from 1-to-2-to-3. After that it'll start to smooth out a bit. Other than that the only other thing I want to touch on passenger/trunk space. Ask yourself if you will need the rear seats and larger cargo room. I know for those 3-4 person road trips I want the M5.

Conclusion - it's a tough choice. That's why we ended up getting both

Attached are a couple of photos of his M3. It's in a limited edition Dakar Yellow paint with gloss black kidney grilles/wheels. CF interior.

dakar is such a beautiful color. I got a e90 SSII 6mt... Test drove both the dct and 6mt but i dont know i guess the 6mt has a special place in my heart... We also have a e60 550i that we can use for long trips but the ///M does the job perfectly fine... I fell on love with the car the minute i test drove it... I agree that the dct is amazing there is. Nothing like it but i cant compare to M5 because i never drove it. We might get the M5 because the 550 has been a major headache for us... To the OP good luck and think about your decision because you do not want to have second thoughts... Again both amazing cars
