The BMW M-5 Preview is now up on the bmw usa website and according to this preview:
An innovative drive concept further sets the M5 apart. Drivers can benefit from an optional new 7-speed SMG, a rapid manual gear-shift, as well as the excellent traditional manual transmission.
Sounds like a manual tranny is a definite go for the states!!

With the manual transmission, definately the waiting list will be growing more. Sigh

Now I wonder if they'll make the SMG free option like in the 545 but then again the SMG in the M5 is much much more sophisticated and prob cost a whole heck of a lot more!

Why would anyone like a manual tranny in the new M5?
The drivetrain is constructed as a whole integrated unit, where engine and transmission is living in closest harmony. Why spoil that with a manual.
Slower shift times and slower acceleration?

For some ppl the SMG will be too hard. It shifts so fast that it is almost impossible to shift smooth. That's why a lot of ppl want it with a mnual tranny.
