So I have had my M5 for about a month and a half now (I need to get some images up for you guys) and I took it on a road rip to Las Vegas this weekend I was lead to believe that my beast had a governor in it restricting it's maximum speed to 155 mph......... well lets just say it didn't seem to work very well this weekend lol. My HUD was telling me I was upwards of 170. Does anyone know if there is actually speed limitations on the US spec M5?

PS. Drive Safely Kids!

Yes there is a speed governor on the M5 but apparently it's not exactly at 155 as stated. Others have seen about 170 like you as well. It could also be due to some variances from what the speedo shows to actual speed so you might not really be going 170.

The regular BMW AG cars are restricted to 250 Km/h (156.25 mph).
Emmies are restricted to 270 Km/h (168.75 mph).
Over here you can purchase a package where the limiter will be set to 305 Km/h (190.625 mph) after you have been driving it for at least 2000 Km's (1250 miles) and took a class with the BMW Drivers Training. They will not just set the limiter to a higher speed then, they will apply some changes to the car too, AFAIk.
Anyways, the BMW tachs are always showing more than you actually drive! So, when driving 250 Km/h your tach and HUD will show 257 or 258 Km/h.

I've hit 170 in an M5 as well, it was my cousins, we were in...Mexico?

I've heard many people hitting around 170 in a stock M5. In fact I've never heard of a stock M5 actually stopping at 155...
