Hi guys,

just few days ago, message appeared on my dash, looking like shock abrorber and followed by car icon with arrows pionting outwards, looked like something to do with leveling i assumed. Took car to BMW dealer this morning at 7am, at around 3pm they rang me and informed that EDC module has been replaced and car needs to be kept overnight, as it takes 8 hours to upload new software. Does it really take 8 hours to upload new EDC software or is it dealer just talking rubbish?? Second question is as EDC module needed replacing, i my head, that sounds like something has fried the module, what can i do if the module gets fried again doue to wires shortcuting, as i think that dealer has just changed module without looking into it deeper, (as a computer engenier i can reckognise this problem as frying modules usualy meen voltage issues or temperature or shortcuting wires=connections) can i get back to dealer and point finger saying that unit and work should be warranted?? Thank you !!!!!

Yes it does take 8 hours+. The dealer is actually upgrading the car's iDrive/Progman software. So basically, they're reprogramming your car to accept the new EDC module.

Gotten car back today, EDC module replaced, new smg software updated, also enterntainment software upgraded, now i can play mp3s, Great !!!! Car much more responsive, very happy with it. BMW Battersea was not too bad, a bit slow on the phone side but Head Technician, LEE was an absolutely top guy, spend time talking with me and answering few questions about the problem, and gave his opinion on what has caused it and so on.... So far I am very Impressed !!!! Cheers mate !!!!
